What’s a blog?

My name is Jim Arment, and I am an upcoming web designer.  I’ve spent the last 6 months pursuing this career path with any and every bit of extra time I have on a computer.  If there’s one thing I found on my first 6 months of my journey to become an accomplished web designer who can, someday, provide enough income to support my wife and future kids while not working so much that I don’t get to spend time with the people who are most important to me in this world - it’s that, like most things in life, really all about the journey and not necessarily about the destination.

I’ve been to more personal websites and blogs of strangers on this quest than in my prior 22 years of life.  I often found myself frustrated having to bounce from one place to another chasing after information through links quickly filling up my tabbed navigation in Firefox.  (I will add that I have a deep appreciation for tabbed document interface AKA tabbed web browsing).  I would go from a designer’s blog, to a programmers blog, to Wikipedia for a definition, then back to another designer’s blog, then I’d start my own google search which would inevitably lead me back to another blog or tutorial of some sort full of terms I’d have to go look up again… It was EXHAUSTING!

What I began to realize in the midst of what felt like running on treadmill, where you run and run but don’t get anywhere, is that I was getting somewhere.  To finish the analogy, I was able to run faster and longer - and I saw that I had in fact accomplished something.  I was well into this journey of mine.

It’s this journey that I want to highlight with my blog.  My hope is that people who are on the same journey as me can use this blog, and site for that matter, to aid and inspire them on their own trip.

I was gonna end this entry with a quote from a famous person that fits seamlessly in with the idea behind my blog.  I couldn’t find that quote; however, I know it’s out there, so if I come across it, I will add to the entry. If you got one, please send it to me. Thanks!
