I work a great job at The Boeing company. I’m payed well, have excellent benefits, work with my wife, so we carpool and each lunch together, and have all sorts of opportunities for growth inside the company. But anyone who has talked with me knows that I’m not doing what I’m passionate about for a living.
I want to help companies use the web to further their business ventures. I want to build websites, consult...

I had an incredible opportunity last spring to attend An Event Apart ‘09 in Seattle - a conference for “people who make websites”. Being my first web conference ever, it was quite the experience, and I hope to have a chance to attend more conferences in the future.
As I sadly come to the determination that it’s not feasible for me to pay my way to the conference again this year (as they are coming to Seattle...

As I develop sites with ExpressionEngine (EE), I’m always looking for ways to improve the clients experience with the control panel. Today, I’m going to talk about a recent strategy I’ve begun to use.
This technique requires a just one extension: Publisher’s Clearinghouse. It also utilizes the “New Tab” feature of EE.
In a nutshell, hide a single-entry-purposed weblog from the publish tab and create a separate tab...

I’m almost two weeks into my to-do list, and I’m making some headway (as well as accruing some minor setbacks). Here’s where I’m at
Help my wife with her finals - I can’t take much credit for this as should did the hard work. But I will brag on her
Help Tanya launch her new site - I’ve still got figure out how the tabs will work, but that’s it
- Finish the official launch on Canyon Creek Online v3.0 - Minor...

For those of you who have read about my wife’s successful bout on Wheel of Fortune, you know that she won a trip for two to the Naples Bay Resort in Florida. Over Thanksgiving, the two of us used the trip and it was amazing.
We spent spent a week at this resort in a room bigger than our condo. We got a boat rental everyday (the boat was a 22’ long speed boat). And every time we went out there were Dolphins...

I told you last week that things were changing here at JArment.com. Here’s a look at some of things in work:
The front page is extremely important for first-time guests. It’s a chance for them to sum me up in a matter of seconds, and my highlighted work wasn’t providing the impression I wanted to leave. Basically, it was a conglomeration of one image from every project on the site and it randomly displays 6 of them...

I’ve finished a bunch of projects at the church and am turning my attention toward finishing this site, marketing myself and finding my dream job (cute, huh?).
While things are getting worked on, take a look at my resume.

Remember the pain of building your first web site? You spend hours on something so small, but once you complete the task, you have an internal battle of glee from the new thing you just learned and disbelief at the amount of time it took you to accomplish the task.
Hours are spent not just fixing the footer, but redoing the exact same fix to all the other pages on your site. Then you get done and tweek something...

The more I use ExpressionEngine the more thoroughly impressed I am with it. Outside of all its out-of-the box capability, it has a strong community of developers who build killer add-ons to make a great CMS system even better.
I just installed REEOrder, a module/extension from Elwin Zuiderveld. This module allows you to manually change the order of entries for any given weblog. In my case, I am working on Canyon...

I have the most talented wife in the world. For those of you who didn’t get to catch her in action on Wheel of Fortune, you missed out. She dominated the first two rounds and won a total $9,100 including a trip to Florida (shown in the image to your left).
We have now decided that one of our goals in life is to get on as many game shows as possible because it is an absolute blast. So if you ever have a chance to...

Many of you already know this, but tonight (2/23) at 7pm PST on your ABC affiliate, my BEAUTIFUL wife will be making her national television debut as a contest on the famous game show, Wheel of Fortune. The show was taped back in October, and she did really well, but we don’t get any of the prizes until after the show airs.
So be sure to tune in tonight and watch my beautiful wife kick butt.
To prove that I was...

I’ve got all my pages started with the exception on the books page. (I’m not much of a reader anyways). Have a look around, and feel free to offer any suggestions you might have.

I just finished a meeting with 3 of the 4 members from the Canyon Creek Church web team, and I am stoked for the launch of the church’s new site. Tanya, the designer, has been hard at work with the new look. It is gonna be amazing. Growing up in the church, I’ve seen a lot of horrible church web sites, and I am proud to say that all the hard work Tanya has put in is paying off.
As she finishes the design, Rob, our...

I am an extremely blessed man. I have the most amazing woman in my life, and I have the privilege to call her my wife. Over the last couple of months, I’ve had conversations with people who joke that the main reason I do things with her is for… (you know). But honestly, I am madly in love.
Jen, if you’re reading this, I love you baby. You are the best!

On September 18, 2007, computer science professor Randy Pausch stepped in front of an audience of 400 people at Carnegie Mellon University to deliver a last lecture called “Really Achieving Your Childhood Dreams.” With slides of his CT scans beaming out to the audience, Randy told his audience about the cancer that is devouring his pancreas and that will claim his life in a matter of months. On the stage...

My name is Jim Arment, and I am an upcoming web designer. I’ve spent the last 6 months pursuing this career path with any and every bit of extra time I have on a computer. If there’s one thing I found on my first 6 months of my journey to become an accomplished web designer who can, someday, provide enough income to support my wife and future kids while not working so much that I don’t get to spend time with the...
